La Ville est ainsi faite qu'elle produit tout autant des angles de rue parfaitement réglés que des carrefours mal ficelés, fruits de manœuvres urbaines incertaines. C'est le cas de celui de l'office notarial, une belle façade en avancée, un pignon dressé brutalement en retour, un bout d'alignement en retrait.... Sauf à déployer beaucoup d'énergie et d'agitation architecturale, toute tentative pour masquer cette situation nous semble vaine.

Alors, pourquoi ne pas "accompagner" plutôt que de tenter une difficile intervention cosmétique ?

- Ne pas démolir le sous-sol existant mais le conserver comme support à un patio d'entrée protégé par des grilles, qui requalifiera l'angle et l'entrée de l'étude tout autant que pourrait le faire un nouveau bâtiment.

- Implanter la nouvelle construction sur la rue de Sébastopol, juste en retrait du jardin-patio, en se gardant la possibilité de l'étendre à nouveau le long de la rue.

- Ménager un "entre-deux" avec l'immeuble existant et y glisser un dispositif de circulations, adossé au pignon, permettant de mettre en relation toutes les parties des deux immeubles.

- Valoriser la maçonnerie de brique du pignon plutôt que de la masquer en l'équilibrant par le pendant d’une nouvelle architecture de brique et d’une lame de verre sérigraphié.

A la confrontation sur l'angle des deux rues de volumes d'architecture différente, le projet préfère substituer un espace en creux qui va les réunir et dont le trait d'union sera la brique... mais aussi une sobriété et une rigueur commune dans le traitement des ouvertures, une architecture "sérieuse" qui sied à une profession dont c'est le trait de caractère le plus reconnu.

With the city planned in a certain way, it produces equally perfectly settled street angles and poorly designed crossroads, fruits of uncertain urban manoeuvres. This is the case with the Notary Office, a beautiful front facade, a brutally erected gable in return, a recessed end of alignment… Expect to deploy a lot of architectural energy and agitation, any attempts to hide this situation seems vain.

Then why not “accompany” rather than try a difficult cosmetic intervention?

- Do not demolish the existing basement but keep it as a support for an entrance patio protected by grids, which will requalify the corner and the study entrance as much as the new building could do.

- To implant the new construction on the Sébastopol Street, just set back from the garden-patio in order to keep the opportunity to extend it again along the street.

- To install an “in between” with the existing building and to introduce a circulation system, leaning against the gable, allowing to connect all parts of the two buildings.

- To enhance the brick masonry of the gable rather than covering it up by balancing with the counterpart of a new brick architecture and a screen-printed glass slide.    

At the confrontation on the angle of the two streets of different architecture volumes, the project prefers to substitute a hollow space which
will bring them together and whose link will be the brick… but also a simplicity and a common rigour in the treatment of the openings, a “serious” architecture which suits a profession whose most recognized character trait is the latter.
