Dans le contexte d’un centre-ville de haute densité, le projet de restructuration du vieil institut utilise à son avantage la création de la station de métro «Colbert» pour désaturer l’espace urbain et reconfigurer une nouvelle façade publique. En continuité de la rue de Gand à la légère inflexion, elle s'appuie sur le fronton de l'ancienne école du fin XIXème siècle au style éclectique caractéristique et en propose une réinterprétation par l'utilisation d’un revêtement mural en acier rouillé, déchiré en de grandes fissures. Sur l’angle urbain, la nouvelle façade se retourne en angle aigu pour ouvrir la perspective au plus profond de l’intérieur de l’école à partir du parvis piéton. Dans cette réorganisation, l’ancienne cour de récréation du XIXème encadrée de façades vénérables est mise en valeur en tant qu’espace d’aboutissement d’un cheminement rythmé par de nouvelles constructions aux volumétries contrastées. Parmi celles-ci les "boites" administratives aux façades en débord et le cylindre trapu de la cantine scolaire, strié de brises soleil circulaires, accusent l’effet de perspective et assurent la lisibilité des programmes par leur formes identitaires.  


In the context of a high-density city centre, the restructuring project of the old institute is taking advantage of the creation of the “Colbert” metro station to declutter the urban space and reconfigure the new public facade. In the continuity of the street of Ghent with slight inflection, it is leaned on the pediment of the old school with a late XIXth century eclectic style and offers a reinterpretation by the use of a rusty steel wall cladding, torn into big cracks. On the urban side of the building, the facade turns into a sharp angle at its ends to open a perspective to the very heart of the school from the pedestrian forecourt. In this overhaul, the former playground from the XIXth century framed by venerable facades is showcased as the culmination of a journey punctuated by new constructions with contrasting volumes. Among them the administrative “boxes” with overhanging facades and the stocky cylinder of the school canteen striated with circular blinds show the effect of the perspective and ensure the legibility of the programs by their identity forms.
