Le Groupe scolaire Jean-Jaurès est idéalement inscrit dans la trame du quartier de la Maillerie à Flers tel un marqueur du nouveau paysage urbain. Sa silhouette découpée à l'alignement du domaine public, le plissé de la maille métallique qui l'enveloppe, sont les attributs de son identité. Il affiche pour autant une indicible discrétion : le groupe scolaire assume avec bienveillance l'urbanité qui lui est impartie, sans se dévoiler totalement.
Le parti pris architectural et urbain qui caractérise le projet répond aux contingences conjuguées du programme et des orientations d'aménagement. Constatant que le resserrement du terrain ne permettait pas de contenir le projet avec ses deux cours de récréation au sol – sauf à créer des discontinuités d'usage et des allongements de liaison préjudiciables - le concept retenu est celui des Plateaux sur lesquels les programmes forment des ensembles autonomes organisés en "Dessus-Dessous".
Au-dessus,la section Élémentaire, sa cour et sa restauration, en dessous, la Section Maternelle, sa restauration et sa cour partagée avec le Centre d'Accueil et de Loisirs. Les deux plateaux constituent un même ensemble architectural, à l’alignement de la voie nouvelle et le long de la lisère Ouest.
The Jean-Jaurès school group is ideally located in the Maillerie neighbourhood in Flers as a maker of the new urban landscape. Its cut-out silhouette in the alignment of the public domain and the pleat of the metal mesh which envelops it, are the attributes of its identity. It shows for all that an indescribable discretion: the school group handles gently the urbanity given to it without revealing itself completely.
The architectural and urban bias that characterizes the project responds to the combined contingencies of the program and the development guidelines. Realising that the ground narrowing would not allow the construction of the project with its two playgrounds on the ground – except to create discontinuities of use and detrimental binding lengthening – the selected concept is the one of “sets” on which the programs form an autonomous whole organised upside down.
Above, the Elementary section, its playground and cafeteria, below the nursery section, its cafeteria and its shared playground with the reception and the recreation centre. Both “sets” constitute a same architectural whole, aligned to the new way and along the west edge.
