A la haute façade existante en brique de l’école primaire affirmant l’équipement public depuis sa construction dans les années 50, le nouveau projet d’adjonction de l’école maternelle en plain-pied ajoute une articulation plus sensible avec l’échelle urbaine du quartier et une identité architecturale plus contrastée. Construite en intérieur d’ilot, l’extension « des petits » se glisse sous l’aile des primaires pour venir constituer au-devant une nouvelle façade en lattes de bois ondoyantes se prolongeant de manière presque imperceptible en clôture. En contrepoint de l’architecture réglée de l’école existante, elle exprime le mouvement en contraste avec l’immobilité. Pour certains, cet aspect pourra évoquer le caractère joueur et vivant de l’enfant s’émancipant du cadre de l’institution.

Décliné en différentes configurations de mise en œuvre des lattes, le matériau bois est identitaire tant des extensions réalisées en ossature bois que des interventions contemporaines au sein de l’ancien bâtiment en brique. Il connote également l’échelle de l’enfant en contrepoint de la monumentalité de l’ancienne école comme l’illustre le nouveau rapport qu’engendre l’auvent qui encadre la cour de récréation.

Ce rapport d’échelle introduit une sensation de protection qui fait écho à la maison allégorique qu’évoquait Françoise Dolto et aux possibilités de relation qu’elle engendre. De manière plus symbolique, cette attention à l’enfant sous-tendue par l’architecture s’affiche « en vitrine » avec les portraits de la psychanalyste sur les vitrages de la circulation principale de la maternelle et de la nouvelle cage d’ascenseur assurant l’accessibilité à tous de la primaire.

To the existing high brick facade of the primary school, which has affirmed the public facility since its construction in the 1950s, the new project for the addition of the single-storey nursery school adds a more sensitive articulation with the urban scale of the neighbourhood and a more contrasted architectural identity. Built in the interior of the block, the "children's" extension slips under the primary school wing to form a new facade of undulating wooden slats extending almost imperceptibly into a fence. As a counterpoint to the regular architecture of the existing school, it expresses movement in contrast to immobility. For some, this aspect may evoke the playful and lively character of the child emancipating himself from the institution.

The wood material is used in different configurations for the implementation of the laths, and is an identifying feature of both the extensions built with a wood frame and the contemporary interventions within the old brick building. It also connotes the scale of the child as a counterpoint to the monumentality of the old school, as illustrated by the new relationship created by the canopy that frames the playground.
