On the edge of the historic and landscaped Citadel of Lille whose garden « Vauban » is one of the peripheral areas beyond the Deûle, the project assembles 3 plots built between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the second half of the 20th. The oldest one, the Hotel Neut, work of the famous architect Emile Vandenberghe, is an old mansion whose decorative richness of facade has not reached us. The most recent one, due to the pencil of the architect E. MAES in 1964, is elaborated from a carrying frame in reinforced concrete raising the construction on 8 levels. Both of them have in common an architectural response that composes the tilted gap of the fragmented outline with respect to the urban alignment.

Achieved in two part, the project is:

A restructuration prolonging, with a contemporary writing, the initial architectural themes (for the old mansion, it is in front of the carriage porch, a pergola restoring the size of a disappeared awning which reproduces the alignments. For the construction of the twentieth century; it is a sun visor screen made of openwork terracotta elements that extends the urban alignment retaining the perception at the back of the askew geometries).

-  A new construction connecting buildings of different eras, whose architectural writing identifies the two programs “administrative” and “education” by its articulations of volumes and by its different materials. The façade of the administrative program, in white concrete and oak wood extend the spirit of the mansion and the ones from the “education” program in anodised aluminium and mirror polished stainless steel blur the density of the interior block. The « glazed connections » between these elements provide brightness and panorama and are areas of exchange and sociability.
