Arras
« Rubans urbains »
« Urban ribbons »

The composition of the constructions is based on a spatial organisation in length. The constructions are spread out on the plot like a "ribbon", holding at once the front to the street, while forming empty spaces animated by plots, vegetal compartments or parking lots, thus answering the regulation concerning the open spaces.

The projectis in a soft and green transition with the existing pavilion fabric, where all the actors of the operation are waiting for an identifiable urban and architectural response, confirming the ambitions of the city of Arras which wants to be active and open to different life styles: It is therefore essential that the project respects the continuities of the city, continuity of nature, landscape and built density but also in order to compose the limits of the public space and the taking into account of the principles of sustainable development and protection of the environment. The project must guarantee the diversity and stimulation of this part of city. The dwellings are divided into groups of 4 to 5 adjoining dwellings.

Parcel A is composed of 5 groups. These groups are articulated with each other, such as modules that interlock, to create hollows (sometimes on the front, thus forming plots, sometimes on the back, thus forming private gardens), but while maintaining a front built on the edge of the public domain.

The housing organisation offers three plans for the facades reading which are revealed by materiality:

- the first plan corresponds to the street front made of white coating with colourful joints marking

- the second plan is in vertical perforated wood cladding

- the third corresponds to the plots, it is constitutive of the urban pattern. The mineral principle of the soil is turned on the facades by a brick treatment of grey facings.
